GIS spatial analysis for Wrexham Council Plans
Requirement
Wrexham Borough Council commissioned a LDP Renewable Energy Assessment to inform their local planning process. The assessment looked at both the existing provision of renewable and low carbon energy and the potential capacity in Wrexham and Denbighshire.
Lovell Johns were awarded a tender to assist in the three-dimensional aspect of the Assessment.
Solution
- A digital elevation model was obtained from the Ordnance Survey.
- Spatial analysis was carried out producing spatial extents of slope angle and direction within varying limits. These were then combined to highlight areas of suitability and constraint.
- The assessment work followed the methods outlined in the Welsh Government’s Toolkit for Planners.
Result
We produced a final set of GIS files in the format of the Council’s own GIS system for use in identifying land that was suitable for the deployment of low and zero-carbon technologies.
