ArcGIS for Desktop allows you to analyse your data and author geographic knowledge to examine relationships, test predictions, and ultimately make better decisions. It is available in three license levels - Basic, Standard, or Advanced (formerly ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo, respectively).
These license levels share the same core applications, user interface, and development environment. Each license level provides additional GIS functionality as you move from Basic to Standard to Advanced. Optional ArcGIS for Desktop extensions offer specialized tools and additional capabilities to enhance your system.
With ArcGIS for Desktop Basic you can:

ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced is the most complete desktop GIS. It includes all the functionality of the standard and basic versions, and adds advanced spatial analysis, extensive data manipulation, and high-end cartography tools.
ArcPad
ArcPad is mobile field mapping and data collection software designed for GIS professionals. It includes advanced GIS and GPS capabilities for capturing, editing, and displaying geographic information quickly and efficiently.
ArcGIS for Server
ArcGIS for Server is a complete server GIS for publishing and managing geospatial services and applications, mashing up geographic information with other enterprise content, centrally managing spatial databases, and distributing GIS functionality via the Internet.
