Darley Stud in Newmarket is the 200 acre headquarters of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoums global breeding operation. In order to assist with estate management and negotiation with contractors for services such as fencing and hedge trimming, Darley wanted to commission a highly accurate map of their paddocks.
Lovell Johns commissioned an aircraft fitted with an accurate camera system to obtain detailed digital scans so that ground details like fences would be easily recognizable. From this imagery, paddock boundaries were accurately digitised and perimeters and areas were calculated to the to the nearest metre. Lovell Johns also sourced Ordnance Survey MasterMap data of the area to enable detailed maps to be produced.
All paddock maps were catalogued and quality checked ready for printing, collation and binding into booklet format. As a by-product, Darley also received high quality digital aerial imagery of the whole site.
