Requirement
Lovell Johns were recently commissioned by multinational publishing company DK (Dorling Kindersley) to support their new title in the Map by Map series, Exploration Map by Map. This large format hardback book uses unique maps, photographs and beautiful illustrations to describe the history of human exploration and discovery.
Solution
Our Team worked closely with DK from an early stage to understand our role within the overall publishing workflow and timetable. We firstly researched and produced detailed ‘map packs’ for each spread, pulling together various different references to create a detailed editorial package for map production. Each approved map pack was then passed to our Cartographic Design Team for initial compilation.
Result
In total, 60 maps were taken through a series of proof stages to final sign-off and delivery within the agreed publishing timetable. Our handover ensured the maps could be easily integrated by the Graphics Team at DK.
