Requirement
Gleerups is a leading Swedish educational publisher, developing a wide range of teaching materials and services in the form of printed books and digital data. Aware of our ability to produce educational atlases, Gleerups approached Lovell Johns in 2024 with a requirement to create a new edition of their World Atlas in the Swedish language.
Solution
We engaged with Gleerups project staff at an early pre-production stage, to refine and agree the specification in terms of number and type of map spreads and thematics required. Initial samples of each map type and thematic representation were produced for review and approval. Lovell Johns were responsible for all editorial research , data selection, as well as GIS data processing AND cartographic design. We laid out all atlas pages, including contents and the country information, providing everything as print ready files. We were in constant contact with the publisher throughout production, advising on legibility, content selection, geopolitical sensitivities and the currency of thematics resources.
Result
Our staff managed the 128-page atlas production process, including all index compilation and pagination, in just 6 months. The first print run was delivered in May 2025.
