Rucksack Readers, an award-winning publisher of detailed walking guides, approached Lovell Johns with a need to develop a new mapping resource. We proposed using OS Open source data, to avoid royalty payments. Rucksack’s distinctive style needed to be retained which required close collaboration with the in-house designer to ensure the new mapping would follow the look and feel of existing publications.
The OS open data was successfully trialled for usability then restyled according to the defined specification before walking routes, facilities and points of interest were added. We also designed a Key and then finally delivered the maps as print ready files.
The publishers were pleased with the new mapping, commenting “thanks for all the efficient hard work”. Lovell Johns have subsequently worked with Rucksack Readers on further publications.
