Regional and town centre bus mapping
Requirement
Following a competitive procurement exercise by Transport for Wales, Lovell Johns were awarded a contract in 2021 for the cartographic design of proposed bus routes throughout North Wales. TfW wanted to map a new revised bus network for the 6 Local Authorities in North Wales and sought a series of regional maps and town centre/city maps to a common design.
Solution
Existing routes were provided by TfW on Google My Maps. The map base was designed to fit with the provided Brand Guidelines – to be easily legible, with limited information so that the routes have the greatest visual impact – with 5 types of bus routes depicted and referenced in a dual- language key.
In total, 17 maps were produced at various scales, also a schematic ‘Tube-style’ map of the routes to match other styling used within TfW.
Result
PDF files of the final maps were supplied to TfW for publication on their website, also the routes as shape files for use within the client’s GIS Department.
