A recurring hot story in the news over the past few years is the participation by the general public in sporting activities and the resultant health and socio – economic benefits this can bring. This story is often covered from the angle of resultant health benefits and savings to the NHS bill, or with an eye to the forthcoming 2012 Olympics and how Britain can nurture future stars from available facilities.
Getting people to participate in such activities, whether this is five – a – side football, swimming or archery is obviously a complex and interesting area. However actually providing the necessary information on available facilities can be straight forward with an interactive website at local level.
Lovell Johns is involved in the development of two such sports database projects by providing a Google Maps interface embedded in the websites of County Sports Partnerships. County Sports Partnerships (CSP) are responsible for organising sport at county level, providing a critical link between national strategy and local delivery.
Merseyside Sports Partnership’s vision is ‘Working to improve the quality of life for the people within Merseyside through sport and physical activity’. LJ provided MSP with a Google API mapping solution in 2007 which can be accessed at the following URL with from the ‘Find a Club’ link:
Lancashire Sport Partnership is soon to launch a similar database linked map allowing users to find a sports location for Under and Over 16s anywhere across the County.
